Blast Cleaning

Supablast offer a variety of blasting and cleaning services ranging from grit blasting through to soft blasting and water jetting techniques.

By selecting the appropriate type of abrasive and by accurately controlling the pressure settings, we can blast clean many different surfaces from bridges and oil rigs through to stone monuments, lamp posts and small components. Our skilled staff can clean any surface without damaging the underlying structure.

Our customers include the railway, highway agency and the utilities industry, and we are fully trained in all aspects of this work.

We hold NHSS, Link-Up Audit, ISO9001, UKAS and UVBD certifications. At Supablast we have the facility to control and monitor the environment in and around the working area including dust extraction, containment, humidity and temperature control. Whatever the condition of your structure, we have extensive knowledge and skills in allmethods of preparation and blast cleaning.

No project is too large or too small. We have our own in-house blasting facilities for smaller jobs and travel countrywide for larger on-site work.

Grit Blasting

Our staff are ICATs trained in all types of blasting. Starting with the surface preparation to ST2 and ST3 standard, this includes scraping and wire brushing the surface and vacuuming.

There are four main standards of blast cleaning, SA1, SA2, SA2.5 and SA3. Each standard reaches a different level of cleaning.

Starting with a light clean to remove loose rust and foreign particles down to a deep clean which can make the steel look like new.

The more stringent standards also specify the surface profile (or roughness) of the grit blasted surface.

This has to be measured with a surface profile gauge as the profile is essential to the adhesion of the protective coatings that will be applied to it.

We own all the equipment to carry out any blasting job from the pots, compressors and extraction units to fully tested and maintained plant equipment and scaffolding.

We even have a decontamination unit for work with the blasting of lead based coatings and supply full health surveillance for our staff.

KwikBlast

Kwikblast is precision grit blasting. By using a combination of grit and water the blasting is gentler than traditional grit blasting.

This system is also very precise ideal for spot blasting and graffiti removal.

By reducing the grit and adding water full containment is not usually needed. The combination of reduced bounce and reduced grit mean that very little airborne dust is created. Not requiring containment means jobs can be done faster and cheaper.

It also removes soluble salts better than dry blasting increasing the life of coatings, and it’s quiet, below 90dBs, which is not only good for staff but also neighbours.

Key features:

  • Reduced git use.
  • Less noise.
  • Less to clean up.
  • Very fine control over the amount of material removed.
  • Encapsulation often not required.

 Ideal for:

  • Spot blasting.
  • Delicate substrates.
  • Jobs where encapsulation would be difficult or too expensive.

Dry Ice Blasting

With Dry ice blasting we can blast clean without damaging or contaminating the surface being cleaned or the area around it. In fact it leaves no residue apart from the removed material which usually consists of a fine dust.

Dry ice blast cleaning works simply by replacing the traditional abrasive material with dry ice (frozen CO2) pellets. These pellets break up while travelling through the blasting equipment and reach the working surface as small particles. Although still frozen these particles have little abrasive effect on the surface.

Dry ice cleaning works best where non-porous substrates have porous coatings such as food waste from metal but in reality almost any job can be done with this system if necessary.

Ideal for removing porous coatings from non porous substrates. The purpose of this system is to clean a substrate without damaging it. It is not suited to removing well adhered coatings like enamelled paints or rust.

Typical uses include:

  • Any form of surface cleaning and degreasing especially of machinery.
  • Food processing machinery.
  • Plastic moulding equipment.
  • Printing presses.

Water Jetting

High pressure water jetting is your one stop cleaning solution. It is an extremely flexible technique that can be used to clean :

  • Bird droppings
  • Chemical spills
  • Building exteriors
  • Walkways and driveways
  • Grease and oil
  • Industrial machinery
  • Mortar stains
  • Roofs
  • Signs and monuments
  • Swimming Pools

Standard

Description

SA1

Poorly adhering millscale, rust and old paint and foreign matter are removed. Well adhered contaminants remain.

SA2

Most of the millscale rust and paint etc are removed and any remaining is very well adhered.

SA2.5

Millscale, rust, paint and foreign matter is removed completely. Any remaining traces are visible only as slight stains or discoloration in the form of spots or stripes.

SA3

All millscale, rust etc is removed and the surface has a uniform white metal appearance with no shading, stripes, spots or discoloration.
